Upholstery Cleaning

When having your upholstery cleaned its so very important to use a professional carpet cleaner. one that has been trained and invested in their knowledge of upholstery cleaning. The reason is that its so easy these days for just anyone to set up as a carpet cleaner and start cleaning upholstery.

Upholstery cleaning needs some knowledge of fabric and the different types, because some fabrics are low moisture or, dry clean only. given the expense of upholstery it can be very costly if they get it wrong. One thought on upholstery cleaners that don’t invest in themselves is that they not likely to take out the right type of insurance if things go wrong to any damaged upholsteryof yours. why would they spend this extra money? and its very unlikely that they will get the cover as most insurance companies will want to see some kind of qualifications so they know their risk is low.

You want to be looking out for a National Carpet Cleaners Association Member (NCCA) like us.

Below are some clips from a carpet cleaning forum. these forums are places that carpet cleaners will keep up to date with whats going on. you will find most are not members of the NCCA as they don’t see the need because they can get advise from these forums. and becoming a member of the NCCA requires studying and an investment.

Anyway here are some real comments.

Upholstery Cleaning Example 1

Hello everyone, i was wondering if some of you experienced chaps could share abit of your knowledge. I have been on a prochem upholstery course but since starting up (recently) have not been asked to do any upholstery jobs as yet thank god lol. I understand there can be a fair few problems with upholstery cleaning, any particular suites/fabric you would say to stay well away from or any advice would be greatly appreciated.”

Upholstery Cleaning Example 2

I have never been a fan of upholstery cleaning, the 2 main reasons being that with so many fabics out there it can be easy to damage the material (even for experienced cleaners) and secondly its lots harder work than carpet cleaning!

For the first time on Friday i looked at an Aridex rotary foam upholstery cleaning machine.  This system would appear to take a lot of the risk out of upholstery cleaning, as well as the plus side being you can cover the area quicker than with conventional hwe or dry cleaning methods.

Do any of you use the system or something similar?  This could be a turning point with regards to my attitude towards upholstery cleaning

Your thoughts advice or experience with this system would be appreciated.”

Upholstery Cleaning Example 3

ok, finally doing my first suite.
whats the best chemical for a general clean all though the arms and front of the seats are quite dirty. was thinking of using one step with lots of agitation then extract with water or clearwater rinse, not sure what the rinsing procedure is for microsplitter as ive never used it. any help will be appreciated and taken on board.”

As you see many don’t know what they are doing. its lucky that these forums do have NCCA member using them and many give advise to these guys. but I am sure you would not want any of the above coming and cleaning your upholstery?

One thing to also think about is at least these guys are looking for help and advise what about the ones that don’t? and I am sure there are many around as I get calls all the time about problems after someone has used a upholstery cleaner with no training.

Many people make the mistake of thinking that upholstery cleaning is easy and that they can base their buying decision on price. well this is a big mistake as i have said at the low end of upholstery cleaning you have businesses that keep their overheads down by having no training, many are part time and cleaning is an extra way to get some money.

Cleaning your upholstery does not have to be expensive. but you should not based you decision on price alone.

Give Tina kimmens a call she is our carpet cleaners network PA and if we don’t cover your local area we will know other NCCA members that do and can give you their details. 0800 535 3580 call any time.
