Rover runs to the window when you get home. With his tail wagging, he jumps up onto your legs the moment you come through the door. You are so happy to see him that you rub his head and talk to him sweetly, until the moment you smell it. That familiar odor hits your nose and your happiness turns into anger. Just from the smell, you know Rover has pooped on your carpet and now you have to clean it.

So although this is the last thing you want to do after a long day at work you put on rubber gloves to protect your hands and get to work. Use paper towels to get as much of the dog poop as possible off the carpet. Throw the poop and the soiled paper towels into a trash bag. Then dampen paper towels and blot the soiled carpeting. Continue blotting until it’s hard to get any more mess of the carpet with this method.

Next put a small amount of enzymatic carpet shampoo directly onto the stain. Almost all carpet shampoo may fade or discolor carpeting, so test the shampoo on a small section first. Softly work the shampoo into the area with a clean, damp paper towel. Follow the directions on the solutions label for wait time. After that, grab a wet sponge and gently scrub the carpet. Wipe up the dirt and remaining stain with dry paper towels.

To eliminate the entire stain, wipe another clean, disposable sponge over the stain again to get out excess shampoo from the carpet. Finally, blot the carpet with dry paper towels, drawing out as much moisture as possible so that the treated area dries quickly. Be sure to throw out all paper towels and sponges that have been soiled so you don’t chance having the smell still in your home.
